Dance FUN-damamentals!

For students in Grades 4-6

Mondays from 4:30-5:30 (No Class on Monday May 25th due to the Holiday)

Get ready to dance, act, and perform! This energetic and fun class introduces students to the fundamental steps and techniques used in musical theatre dance. Drawing from jazz and Broadway-style choreography, students will build a strong foundation by learning dance terminology, musicality, and how to express character through movement.

Designed for students in grades 4-6, this class helps students grow in confidence, coordination, and stage presence while exploring choreography set to favorite musical soundtracks!

Voice Lessons with Ohad

The Young Company offers half-hour private voice lessons with professional and engaging coaches.  Throughout these lessons, students explore vocal technique, musicianship, song repertoire, and audition skills. Lesson curriculum and song selection are developed between student and instructor and tailored to the students’ specific goals. These lessons are a great fit for beginner singers as well as experienced vocalists looking to expand their skill set and experience. 

All lessons are offered in-person at Greater Boston Stage Company.

When registering, please select the session that works best for your schedule. Times are selected on a first-come, first-served basis.

Ohad Ashkenazi is a Singer, Actor and Educator from Boston, MA. He is the founder of Ohad Vocal Studio, where his students learn to demystify their voice and build a reliable, sustainable relationship with their instrument. His approach is student-centered; rooted in the science of motor learning, sports psychology and the anatomy and physiology of the voice. This, coupled with a special emphasis on artistry and storytelling, leads the student to discover their unique artistic fingerprint and bloom as a performer. His specialties include teaching ESL students to sing naturally and smoothly in English, Musical Theater, Improvisation and Embellishment (Riffs/Runs) and working with trans & non-binary performers (like any individual, the voice is not defined by, or limited to, any particular gender expression.)

As a musical artist, Ohad has self-produced and released 2 EPs which have amassed 60K streams on Spotify, 122K views on YouTube, radio & music festival appearances in Israel, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Australia. His recording experience includes voiceover and soundtrack recording for film and television (Shkufim, Shababnikim) and studio albums (Music Kreation II), and he has performed in numerous pride events, music festivals, concerts, and as a backing singer to Israeli legends Ohad Hitman, Shlomit Aharon, Yehoram Gaon and more.

Note: There is no Class on Monday May 25th due to Memorial Day.

Soren teaches voice lessons to students grades 7-12, as well as adults. All lessons are offered in-person at Greater Boston Stage Company.

Soren (he/him and they/them) is active as a music director, ensemble and solo performer, and voice educator throughout the Boston area, and he has presented on vocal pedagogy topics at organizations across the United States, including the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Soren brings a compassionate and creative presence to the voice studio, with broad and deep technical knowledge and a responsive approach centered on each student’s development as a whole artist.

Soren holds an M.M. in Vocal Pedagogy from New England Conservatory, has taught private voice for over seven years, and coaches repertoire and technique across multiple genres, including contemporary commercial music, musical theatre, and classical. He speaks German and French and is working toward greater proficiency in Spanish and Italian. Outside the studio, Soren enjoys songwriting and hiking.

Musical Theater Dance: Level 1

Take your performance skills to the next level! This high-energy, beginner level class focuses on technique, precision, and storytelling. Through this class, students will strengthen their technical foundation while developing musicality, performance quality, and character driven movement. 

Whether you’re preparing for school productions, Young Company performances, or future theatre training, this class will challenge students grades 7-12 to grow as a versatile, expressive performer. 

StageQuest: Dice, Drama, & World Building

Go from character sheet to center stage!

Calling all adventurers, storytellers, and creative risk-takers! In this course, students will start around the gaming table and end on stage. Participants will play tabletop roleplaying games, crafting heroes, villains, magical realms, and high stakes quests. Then, working as an ensemble, they transform their campaigns into a staged reading that brings the class’s original characters and epic adventures to life… no natural 20 required!

Along this quest, students strengthen skills in character development, improvisation, narrative structure and collaborative storytelling. Whether serving as actor, director, designer, or playwright, each adventurer contributes to shaping the world they’ve invented together while building confidence, creativity, and leadership skills.

Anna Jean Simmons (she/her) is a classically trained soprano, librettist, and educator. Having taught students of all ages and skill levels, Anna is passionate about helping students find a sense of self in their singing. She teaches students to connect the voice, brain, and body, and prioritizes finding a clear and free sound rooted in strong technique. Anna is equally at home both performing and teaching opera, musical theatre, and contemporary commercial music; cross training her students is a high priority to foster a well rounded voice. Anna has an active, cross-genre performance and writing career, and is additionally proficient in both piano and French language.

Anna received her MM in Vocal Performance from the Longy School of Music under the tutelage of Angela Gooch, and holds a BM from the University of Dayton with majors in Vocal Performance and French.

IMAGINATION FOUNDATIONS: Play, Pretend, Perform!

Perfect for grades 1-4, this class welcomes all experience levels and encourages students to express their creativity and have fun on stage and in rehearsal!

24HR Musical

Calling all students in grades 7–12. We’re doing it again! Join our ranks as the Young Company embarks on another epic (and speedy) journey to stage a musical in just 24 hours! For this event, students and staff will work as a collaborative, creative team to stage, costume, and tech an entire production that will be performed for the public. The countdown will begin at 4:00pm on Friday, May 1st ending with a performance on May 2nd! 

Travel back to the Renaissance for an hour of musical comedy gold in Something Rotten! JR. In the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as "The Bard." When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self, and all that jazz.
